Do you know how to learn fishing rod repair? Did you have a “killer” fishing rod, and it was broken? Do you not want to replace it because the fishing fortune may leave? In fact, it is quite easy to fix a broken rod by yourself if you follow the stages below:
Ruler or another measuring tool, clout, alcohol or gasoline, iron files, abrasive paper, pencil or felt – pen for marking, glue, pincers, and scissors.
Fishing rod repair – Let’s get started!
Do some warm-up actions before fixing
You have to examine where exactly the broken point is as it leads to the different what – to – do after. Also, you need to cut out the break point. Smooth it by cutting off the frayed ends of the break until each part is neat and square. Moreover, using sandpaper or iron files to do it is acceptable.
Find a piece of old shredder in a store
Shop for fishing gear of which material is glass or carbon fiber. Try on the small end of core rod (name of the segment to be scrapped) to the small end of the broken rod. If you can insert the core deep inside about 10-15cm, you will have a perfect replacement.
For easy distinguishing and understanding, let’s name the two parts. The broken rod is A, and the core rod is B.
Try inserting the larger tip of B into the large end of A
If it is too big to get in deeply, you should cut it out with fine iron files. Additionally, you had better use a ruler to look for the place on B whose diameter is equivalent to the inner diameter of A. That is the best way to deal with the size of them.
Clean the interior of the two ends of A
Use alcohol or gasoline to remove dust and grease. Especially, you must clean even the broken shredders of A with abrasive paper or iron files. At the same time, do not forget to remove the paint or varnish at the ends of A. Next, brush once again with the sandpaper.
Push one end of B into the larger end of the A
It should be about a half of the length of B. After pushing, mark B with a pencil or felt – pen. Then, cut the two cores, 10cm away from the marked-place and use sandpaper to smooth the two ends of B. After cutting, you will have a core with 20cm in length.
Prepare the glue
You should use the 2-component “epoxy” or “resin” glue (Absolutely do not use any glue which becomes dried instantly). After mixing well the two chemicals together, you need a long stick such as chopstick. Consequently, it can caulk the glue thoroughly and carefully inside the larger end of A.
Thrust B into the back of B which was covered with glue
Keep doing it until B comes out from the other end about 10cm. Next, grasp the spindle head in the center of A, so that the glue is spread evenly inside. (In this part, you need the support of a quite long stick to push the core deep inside the body of A).
Wipe excess glue
Use clout which was gasoline absorbed for wiping away any excess glue from the core immediately. Importantly, you need to be careful to remove excess glue at where the broken point is. Unless you do it, when assembling the fractured part at the back, they will not fit since the glue has dried out. Wait for them to dry with the time written in the instruction; it is usually about 24 hours.
Move to the next process of gluing
After A, which has pasted the core, completely dry out, move to the next process of gluing. Before gluing to A, you need to check the core and the rod once again by nesting them together. If two sections of A do not fit with each other, you need to adjust the core.
After the adhesive has been applied inside A, as previously done, push the fracturing head into the core, Then, clean the excess glue on the outside of the rod with a cloth that passes with gasoline. Allow drying for 24 hours.
Let’s make it durable
Two broken sections are now no longer broken. Now come to the reinforcement. There are two schools:
1 – no additional reinforcement: just apply a coat of epoxy adhesive around the joint to fill the droplets. If the coat was left, to dry the adhesive, smooth with sandpaper, and spray painted later.
2- reinforcement by tying the thread: cleat two parts of the fishing rods which are completely joined with sandpaper at the joint to remove the glue still sticking on the body. Wrap the two ends to break, about 15cm from the joint, a paper tape used in the technology of painting or painting the car.
To strengthen the joints, use only the thread, wrap it around a ribbon which is only about 10cm long. After that, use the dense lice composed of two components to spread into the layer just wrapped. Particularly, you also need to rotate the rod in the process of dissolving the nodules, so that it cannot be corrupted).
When the vermicelli is completely dry, you can repaint the whole area with a spray. How beautiful the painting is, it depends on your ability of art. But surely the broken point will be more solid than the unbroken before.
Finally, repairing a fishing rod is not too difficult as you thought. Things above are all you have to do and you just need to be careful and patient. I hope that all of you could manage to fix your broken fishing rod. Furthermore, former fishing fortune on the rod will stay still and become more powerful along with its new core. Good luck!
